Stephen King - The Dead Zone (1979)

This book has had both a movie and a successful television series based on it. I've enjoyed all of it's incarnations.

Carl Hiaasen - Nature Girl (2006)

I read this book on a plane on my way home from Reno last year. It's not hard to forgot as I've only been on a plane twice and it was not a pleasant experience. (I am referring to the plane ride and not the book!) I picked this book up at one of those airport store because I had ran out of reading material.
Although I'm looking forward to Hawaii in a few months, I'm not necessarily excited about the travel. I'm not to fond of boats either so I'm pretty much out of luck.

William Gibson - Neuromancer (1984)

Here is a book that was well ahead of it's time. The term "Cyberspace" makes it's first appearance in this novel, as well as in an earlier short story by William Gibson as well. This is the first book in the Sprawl trilogy.

Fletcher Flora - Insurance (1955)

Picked up the April 2009 edition of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, and it includes a short story from Fletcher Flora from 1955 entitled "Insurance" and originally published in Menace.

Richard Stark - The Hunter (1962)

This is the first book by Donald Westlake using the alias Richard Stark.
It is also the first book in the highly successful Parker series.

This book has been recently reissued by the University of Chicago Press.

For an excellent source of information on all things Parker, take a look here:

Charles Willeford - Miami Blues (1984)

This book is the first in Charles Willeford's series starring detective Hoke Moseley.

Roger Zelazny - Nine Princes in Amber (1970)

I got hooked on this series as a child- to this day it remains one of my favorites. This is the first book in the original Chronicles of Amber series that spanned 5 books.

Philip K. Dick - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968)

This book became the basis for the film Bladerunner which helped catapult Philip K. Dick from relative obscurity to fame after his death. Many movie adaptations of his books and stories have followed, including Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly.

Charlie Papazian - Complete Joy of Homebrewing, 3rd Edition (2003)

Although this may not be the most technical homebrewing manual, it is probably one of the most entertaining and enjoyable. Like Charlie says - ""Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew."

Lawrence Block - Grifter's Game (1961)

This was reissued as the first ever Hard Case Crime novel in September 2004. The first edition was published under the title Mona by Gold Medal in 1961.

Alfred Bester - The Demolished Man (1953)

Originally published as a serial novel in Galaxy Science Fiction,
this is Alfred Bester's first and perhaps most highly regarded full-length novel. The original title was going to be Demolition!
