Valentine's Day 2009

For those not attending the Brian Vander Ark concert in Grand Rapids on Valentine's Day, Groove Solution will be performing at the Lakeshore Tavern. Also, Revolutionary Road starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet is showing at the nearby Harbor theater, which looks like it might be a good movie to take a date!

The Pusher, by Ed McBain

I believe this is #3 in the 87th precinct series, and I have to say I am enjoying this series quite a bit. This one was published in 1956, and was the last of the original 3 books that Ed McBain was contracted to write. Obviously, the series became a hit, and Ed McBain went on to right many, many, many more. Interestingly, this book originally had a different ending, which I won't go into for fear of giving anything away. My copy included an afterward, in which the author divulges the original ending. Like earlier books in the series, this book is lean but mean!

The Follower, by Jason Starr

Just finished Jason Starr's most recent novel The Follower. That brings me up to date with his full-lengths, with the exception of Fake I.D. which will be coming out on Hard Case Crime later this year. I've also a few of his short stories to track down as well, but I've read several of those already also. This book will not disappoint fans of Jason's other work!

Rob Schrab Visits with JD Ryznar

In this episode, from around this time last year, JD and Rob get drunk on vodka, east Indian food, listen to Prince and Weird Al on vinyl, and make valentines, as well as shoot a short fan film promoting Rob's new comic book. Rob was also more recently featured on an episode of Liam Lynch's Lynchland.
